If it turns black where you scratched—it’s a thermal label.
If nothing happens, it’s coated paper.

Hold the label close to a heat source like a lighter or heat gun—without touching the flame.
A thermal label will quickly change color when exposed to heat.
A coated paper label will stay the same.

🖨Tip 3: Printer Type

Thermal labels are printed using direct thermal printers and don’t require any ribbon.
Coated paper labels, on the other hand, need a ribbon to print.
If your printer uses ribbon, you’re probably using coated paper labels.
